Parque do Ibirapuera (Ibirapuera Park) occupies an area of 1,6 million square meters and is home to important public buildings, several museums, a planetarium, and Pavilhão Japonês (Japanese Pavilion), with its typical gardens and lakes. Ibirapuera Park it’s a nice place for kids, for runners and bikers and to walk in the most important brazilian urban park, with a lot of green areas. It’s perfect to a day outdoors in São Paulo and one of the best tips for tourists in the city.
There are also running tracks, courts, bike tracks and a large plant nursery. There you find the Bienal building, Ginásio de Esportes (Sports Gymnasium), Museu do Presépio (Crèche Museum), Museu da Aeronáutica e do Folclore (Aeronautic and Folklore Museum), Obelisco in honor of the heroes of 32 (a revolution that took place in 1932) and the monument to Bandeiras (a group of explorers).
One of the city’s most important green areas, Parque do Ibirapuera was opened in 1954 to celebrate the city’s IV Centenário (the city’s 400 years).

Obelisco Mausoléu aos Heróis de 32
- Obelisco in honor of the heroes of 1932. This monument, in honor of the fighters who took part in the so-called 32 revolution, is divided into four big panels in Italian mosaic. The drawings of the dome and the crypt of the mausoleum were conceived by Galileo Emendabili, and the subtitles were created by the poet Guilherme de Almeida.
Monumento às Bandeiras
- Conceived by Victor Brecheret, this monument pays a tribute to the Portuguese explorers and to the native indian guides, aside from other races represented in the monument that took part in Bandeiras (exploration expeditions in the brazilian forests searching for indian and metals), such as mamelucos (blend of white people with the native indians) and black people, all together carrying the canoe of the explorers’ bands
